What is Work Ready, Release Ready?

Work Ready, Release Ready is a South Australian Department for Correctional Services funded program and supports offenders to build skills, confidence and readiness to engage in employment. The program supports participants on their journey to employment and settling back into the community when released from prison. Workskil Australia provides Work Ready, Release Ready in the following South Australian prisons:

  • Adelaide Pre-Release
  • Adelaide Women's Prison
  • Cadell Training Centre
  • Mobilong
  • Port Augusta

How does this program help participants to find a job?

Through the program, participants will understand what is expected in the workplace and will be assisted to develop the skills, attitudes and behaviours required to make a successful transition to work. Specifically, it supports participants to:

  • develop practical skills to get a job,
  • gain education or training,
  • find and participate in work experience opportunities,
  • identify employment opportunities and
  • connect with relevant local community services

The program has three stages, which each participant works through:

Work Ready (in custody)

  • Identify skills and employment goals
  • Develop a training plan
  • Work in Prison Industries and/or
  • Work towards a vocational qualification

Release Ready (Pre-Release)

  • Work on resumé
  • Role-play interviews
  • Use networks
  • Apply for jobs
  • Plan for release

Employment (Post-Release)

  • Transition support
  • Employment preparation
  • Post-employment support for 12 months
