What is Disability Employment Services?

Disability Employment Services, also known as DES, supports people with a health condition, injury or disability receive assistance to prepare for, find and keep a job. Workskil Australia is a provider of Disability Management Service (or DES-DMS), which provides support for people who need occasional assistance to maintain their employment. This support is separate to jobactive.

How will DES help me find a job?

We can help you search for a job that suits you, in a role that you can flourish in.
Our one-on-one support includes:

  • A dedicated Employment Coach, who will work with you to understand your situation, interests and requirements to assist you in supporting you into employment.
  • An initial appointment to help set you up. This will include developing a Job Plan, resume, cover letters, assistance with setting up a myGov account and more.
  • Career counselling to discuss how to get the best results for you.
  • We will provide assistance if you need special equipment or workplace modifications to help you start and keep work.
  • We can arrange pre-employment programs that will give you real, relevant experience before you start working.
  • Financial support for work clothing, transport, education and training can be arranged for eligible job seekers.

We are looking forward to you getting a job. It's an exciting time, but can often make us feel nervous as we meet new people and enter a new environment.

  • As you settle into your new role, we will continue to support you and your new employer through our Post Placement Support program to help you settle in.
  • We'll keep in regular contact with you and your employer to smooth out any bumps and make any necessary changes.
  • Then, at the 26 week mark, we’ll work together to determine if you need future support and make a plan from there.

If you're currently employed, but facing some challenges that are affecting your work, we can help smooth the way through the Work Assist program.

How do I access this support?

Eligibility criteria does apply. Supported health conditions, injuries or disabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Depression
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Anxiety
  • Bipolar
  • Schizophrenia
  • Back pain
  • Knee joint pain
  • Hip pain
  • Muscular skeletal
  • Lower limb deficiency
  • Spinal conditions
  • Circulatory disorders
  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Dyslexia
  • Learning disability.

To be eligible to access this support you will also need to:

  • Be an Australian resident.
  • Not currently be employed for more than your Employment Benchmark hours.
  • Not be studying full time (unless you are an Early School Leaver).
  • Be able to work for at least eight hours per week.
