Taking action for Cristy’s career
Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians and it is everyone’s responsibility to build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures and futures as we work together towards reconciliation.
To launch National Reconciliation Week 2021 and in keeping with this year’s theme ‘More than a word. Reconciliation takes action,’ Workskil Australia celebrates the journey of one of our Indigenous Customers, Cristy who overcame a number of employment barriers, including homelessness.
After moving to Adelaide from Alice Springs, Cristy was eager gain employment and after extensive mentoring from her Workskil Australia support team, she was put forward for an Indigenous identified role as an Administration Assistant with Skilltech, a Downer Group company.
Through Workskil Australia’s Transition to Work program, Cristy was assisted to prepare for her interview through company research, a mock interview and obtaining suitable business attire. Workskil Australia also provided Cristy financial assistance with food and rent and supported her in getting her driver’s licence.
Cristy was successful in gaining work with Skilltech and is still loving full time work. She has also been able to secure stable accommodation closer to her work and will be commencing a Certificate III in Business Administration traineeship in 2021.
We are so proud of you Cristy, it's only upwards for you from here.
