Here at Workskil Australia, our mission is to support Australians to achieve their full potential from school to retirement, by preparing them for, and assisting them into, quality employment.
Having started my employment at Workskil working at our Mile End office as an Administration Officer and Employment Broker, I felt it gave me the greatest advantage to be able to know what to look for when recruiting internally for the business.
The ever-changing industry of Employment Services requires our staff and future staff to be resilient in a sometimes challenging environment.
When screening applications and shortlisting, it’s important that our hiring managers and I look out for candidates who have a cover letter and resume that addresses the essential criteria for the role that’s being advertised.
We also look for candidates with excellent organisational and multitasking skills, as well as someone who would feel comfortable to pick up the phone to call employers and discuss opportunities for their customers. Most importantly we look for someone with a strong desire to deliver excellent customer service by living up to Workskil Australia’s values, which are Care, Respect, Service Honesty, Leading by Example, Integrity and Teamwork. And whilst having industry experience is a plus, we consider all applicants with a strong customer service background, no matter what industry they’ve come from!
I have been fortunate enough to have been given some amazing opportunities throughout my six years here at Workskil. My role as the Recruitment Advisor in the Human Resources team sees me reviewing recruitment needs and tracking all vacancies across every state, ensuring we stay compliant by checking documentation and approvals at each stage of the recruitment process, posting advertisements internally and externally on SEEK, liaising with hiring managers, shortlisting, interview booking and conducting reference checks/background checks. Then there’s the most rewarding part of my role: making the call to the preferred candidate to offer them the job to start with the organisation. Delivering that news, especially in times like these where people have been really affected by the current climate, makes my crazy busy days feel worth it every time.
